
Ophra Winfrey
Born in humble ways, her parents being a housemaid and a coal miner, who then made his way up to the very top; Ophra became the most famous woman in U.S and the world, without even thinking about it for a second!
Her childhood being practically poor, she used to make her dresses out of potato sacks living with her grandmother.
She was nicknamed "The Preacher" for her ability to recite Bible verses.
Her grandma used to hit her when she misbehaved or didnt do her chores.
Then when she moved with her mother at 6 years old, she worked as a maid.
She had 3 siblings, the first one, younger than her; died out of a sobredosis of cocaine, the other one, she didnt even know about her because her mom gave her in adoption, she realized about her until 2010. The youngest brother, called Jeffrey, died due to AIDS in 1989.
Her cousin, uncle and a family friend abused sexually of her.
She always had the gift of knowing how to talk in public.
How did she make her fortune?
She started to make money by anchoring TV shows and news in Baltimore. Then she started working on TV morning shows until a producer called Ebert, saw her and knew she would hit the entertainment area. He changed his TV show called "At the movies" to "The Oprah Winfrey Show", expanding to a full hour, and broadcast nationally beginning September 8, 1986. All of this at the age of 32, she became billionaire in a blink of an eye. With a 2000 net worth of $800 million, Winfrey is believed to be the richest African American of the 20th century. Winfrey was the highest paid TV entertainer in the United States in 2006, earning an estimated $260 million during the year.
She has performed in several movies, also wrote a few books about loosing weihgt.
What advice does she offer?
"You dont start being rich and famous, you have to learn wich is your gift and what is that you are good at, and work on it, but at the same time enjoying what you are doing; working hard EVERY day".
How does Oprah spend her money?
She has bought a lot of properties around the US and the world.
By 2012 she had given away about $400 million to educational causes.
As of 2012, Winfrey had also given over 400 scholarships to Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia.
